Participant's Vow
On becoming a Participant...
"They committed themselves to the teaching of the apostles, the life together, the common meal, and the prayers.
Everyone around was in awe-all those wonders and signs done through the apostles! And all the believers lived in a wonderful harmony, holding everything in common. They sold whatever they owned and pooled their resources so that each person's need was met.
They followed a daily discipline of worship in the Temple followed by meals at home, every meal a celebration, exuberant and joyful, as they praised God. People in general liked what they saw. Every day their number grew as God added those who were saved."
acts 2:42-47 (The Message)
Devote (di-vot) vt..
1. To give or apply oneself to a particular activity or cause.
2. To set apart for a specific purpose or use
3. To set apart by or as if by a vow or solemn act
What then, as a Christ follower, are you devoted to? Are you devoted to the mission of Jesus? Are you devoted to the bride/body/church of Jesus? It's interesting how today we can claim to love Jesus, but our life reflects little love for the people Jesus died for.
Our PARTICIPANT'S VOW is prophetic.
It challenges the values of our culture: consumption, individualism, despair.
Our PARTICIPANT'S VOW is holistic.
Rather than getting "in the club", participation is focused on a Jesus way of life that is concerned with reclaiming this broken world where we live.
Our PARTICIPANT'S VOW is unifying.
Rather than preaching conformity, we are seeking community...common unity around the way of life Jesus modeled for us. A way of life Jesus calls His followers to live. Followers who were incredibly different from each other, yet their lives were woven together into a tapestry of community.
