How Will You Celebrate Easter?
This is a big week for those following Jesus. How will you honor Jesus this Easter? Right away you may think of attending an event(s) this coming weekend. Those celebrations are good. They can help in re-centering us around the truth of Easter.
But maybe I should rephrase this...how will your personal attitudes and actions be different this week BECAUSE of Easter?
For me, I am personally investing in lives of several at-risk kids living below the poverty line. Thru investing in relationships with them, I am learning about the challenges they face. Trust is growing between us and thru that I pray to meet some of their very real needs.
But sometimes I am tempted to give up. One kid has a single mom who has made promises that she hasn't kept. Those broken promises have cost me...literally. It's tempting to pull away from the messiness of this kid's life and simply live more comfortably.
Celebrating Easter this week has encouraged me to stay in it with these two boys. Not only that, but to step it up in praying for/serving these kids and their families. Last night I reached out again to them and their families.
I would like to hear from you. What are doing differently this week in our broken world? Let's celebrate together a different way of life...because He lives.

Honestly, I didn't really think about living any differently this week until reading your post.
Now that I have, my first reaction is "overwhelmed" because I feel like I need to do something "really big." But maybe I need to focus on just doing "something", even if it's small!
And that just reminded me of this quote:
"I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble."

I hadn't thought of doing anything specifically either during Easter week, though I did find my mind and heart were on Jesus even more during this time. Recently I started sort of a card ministry of sorts - I've just felt compelled to send notes of encouragement to others who may need it, or just a note of appreciation. Oh, and this week I agreed to lend my creative talents to a teaching session that will be focused on developing a deeper relationship with God. Actually it will be for women of faith and also written to reach out to women who haven't experienced God's love yet.
Still, Lee, I'm thinking about how mentoring one-on-one as you're doing can have such a profound impact on someone's life. It's giving me more to think about this Holy Saturday.
