Downtown Kalamazoo 2 - street shot

What would people say if Threads disappeared tomorrow?

We are asking that question. As we see God's heart revealed in the Bible, we quickly learn that God formed His people to be a blessing to this planet. He is passionate about the redemption of this entire world, as well as the people who live in it. We believe God is doing something in history and He is looking for partners.

To learn more of , I urge you to check out a great NPR radio interview with Shane Claiborne: http://speakingoffaith.publicradio.org/programs/newmonastics/claiborne_downwardmobility.shtml

As we ask how we could be a blessing to this city, God is leading us to some amazing answers. I want to invite you to join the conversation as we ask that question repeatedly in the days ahead.

Did you know?...

  • That 40% of kids in the Kalamazoo Public Schools live below the poverty line?
  • That over 10,000 people live in the Edision neighborhood? Their median income...$11,000 a year.
  • That our city's mayor and community leaders are psyched by the vision we have of changing our city, one life at a time?
  • We are finding more opportunities than we could have imagined.

On June 10th, we will have a great opportunity that many will have never experienced. We envision mobilizing hundreds of adults and kids to move into our city and become the blessing God intends us to be. Stay tuned for the journey ahead...

Lee, thanks for posting this. There's a church in Panama City, Florida that's about our size, and they've decided to do a "Solidarity Fast" June 11-13 to stand with the weak and poor and experience hunger and lack. Rob is the the pastor there, and has a blog here: http://solidarityfast.wordpress.com/ It seems that God is directing both churches at almost the exact same time to be a blessing to those in need. I'll be praying for Eastgate while we're out doing CityServe.
